Alexander Adamau’s practice centers on the intersection of care, control, and bodily vulnerability within the framework of contemporary systems of protection and discipline. Working across sculpture, installation, and object-based design, he examines how the aesthetics and functions of safety — ergonomic forms, medical materials, standardized devices — evolve into tools of regulation and psychological constraint.
Adamau’s work reflects on the body as a site of both fragility and social inscription, revealing how acts of care often double as mechanisms of oversight. His objects hover between the intimate and the institutional, between sanctuary and surveillance, transforming everyday symbols of support into quiet structures of dependency and estrangement. Through a visual language of sterility, containment, and controlled softness, Adamau challenges our assumptions about protection, exposing the fine line where care becomes control and the personal is absorbed by systemic order.
